MAGMA, the Museum of Cast Iron

The MAGMA tell the technological  story, artistic and human of the steelworks of Follonica in maximum moment of its production. Inside every room develops an aspect, investigates and explores topics closely connected with the production of cast iron. Through documents and testimonies, films and reconstructions, so exposure helps to understand complex relationships which is triggered by the creation of this small, but historic factory.

Park Hills Metallifere

The park was born from the desire not to lose the history of mining and metallurgy that succeded in the district of Metalliferous Hills of Grosseto for about three millennia, and that affected the determination of their cultural landscape. The protection of industrial sites and abandoned mining, integrated with considerable natural resources and shining examples of medieval art and architecture, existing profusely in the area, make the Metalliferous Hills an itinerary for a different type of tourism. The main theme is the discovery of traces of mining and work underground. Inevitably, in the journey through these lands, they overlap and an extraordinary testimony to the culture of great interest.


“Parco dell’Uccellina” 

It extends for 15 km along the Tyrrhenian coast, between the Ombrone river   and the Talamone Gulf. Here you can immerse yourself in the Mediterranean vegetation following the paths indicated by park guides always available to accompany you. You can also make horse riding and canoeing.



Scarlino is a charming medieval village perched on the Monte d’Alma. In the thirteenth century, probably in 1240, it was among the first countries in the Maremma to organize themselves as a free land. The town is Rocca Pisana of the thirteenth century. Around Rocca, walls incorporating the village, they kept intact the charm of the medieval villages.


Montioni Park

The Montioni Park is a protected area about 7000 hectares, located on the ground of five different municipalities: Massa Marittima, Follonica, Suvereto, Piombino and Campiglia Marittima. Inside the park there are also two State Nature Reserves: Poggio Tre Cancelli and Marsiliana, where there is total freedom of many wildlife species with an abundance of roe deer, deer and wild boar, but also foxes, hedgehogs, weasels, porcupines and wild cats. Among the bird population instead hawks, doves, hawks, bianconi falcons, owls, barn owls and more.


Castiglione della Pescaia

Ancient village overlooking the sea, between Punta Ala and Marina di Grosseto. The ancient part is a balcony on the Tyrrhenian Sea. And its marina offers daily excursions to the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago. Castiglione della Pescaia boasts ancient origins: the first traces of population in this area date back to about sixty thousand years ago, while the first urban settlement is located at Vetulonia, the ancient city that the Etruscans founded near Lake Prile (now dried). After the  Roman Empire falling   and the incursions of the barbarians, in 962 Castiglione it was ceded to Pisa by Otto I of Saxony, emperor of Germany. Pisa exploited the resources without worrying about the harbor and the waters of Lake Prile that, becoming stagnant, caused the increase of malaria epidemics.
